"We shall not ever meet them bearded in heaven, Nor sunning themselves among the bald of hell; If anywhere, in the deserted schoolyard at twilight, Forming a ring, perhaps, or joining hands In games whose very names we have forgotten. Come, memory, let us seek them there in the shadows." -Donald Justice, Class of 1942

Robert Janes Fewell, 95, has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 5, 2018. A loving husband, a revered father and father-in-law, a loyal friend to many, dedicated to the Baptist Church and an exceptionally bright and successful businessman. Bob was born on February 21, 1922, and treasured calling Miami home. He was certified by the Florida State Genealogical Society as a direct descendant of Daniel Gillette who settled in Manatee County in 1825 before Florida's Statehood in 1845. His mother's family moved south to Miami in 1906 and provided colorful stories of life during those early years. Bob's parents divorced at the start of the Depression, when he was only six, leaving Bob's mother as the sole provider for he and his brother, Glenn Fewell, now deceased. Times were hard, but his mother had an abundance of Southern charm, was a popular piano player and found employment during the Depression managing Boarding Houses. She had a talent of making the darkest day look bright through music, which brought much joy and laughter to Bob and his brother's childhood. As a teenager, Bob attended Miami Senior High School and performed with the Greater Miami Boys Drum & Bugle Corps, under the direction of Caesar LaMonica. In 1943, Bob married his beautiful wife Marian Guthrie. The following year he entered the Navy during World War II and was stationed in Jacksonville and Pensacola. After being honorably discharged, using the GI Bill, he enrolled in Law School at the University of Miami. The next year his daughter, Carole, was born, but Bob and baby Carole had serious health issues and Marian was le carrying the weight of the family problems for a few years. At age 29, he went to work in the management department for the Keyes Co in the downtown Miami Everglades Hotel. Shortly thereafter, he opened the Keyes Co office on Miracle Mile in CG and was in charge of the Land Department which was the division of Real Estate that became his lifelong specialty. Bob loved airplanes and received his pilot's license in 1955. He flew prospective clients all over Florida selling investor's acreage that was not always accessible by roads. Realtor friends called him the ""The Flying Realtor"" which became his slogan. His reputation for a keen knowledge of Florida's topography, his good instincts analyzing the future value of acreage, and his ""so sell"" approach to selling, was sought a er by many wealthy investors. Bob was a risk taker and at an early age began to successfully seize investment opportunities himself. In 1959, Ralph Renick, of WTVJ in Miami, invited Bob with approximately 40 other Florida businessmen to travel to Russia on a promotional tour and have an audience with Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev. Bob spoke of this ""eye opening"" experience for years and the poor quality of life he witnessed in Russia reaffirming to him the importance of capitalism and how very blessed we are as a country. In 1964, Bob le the Keyes Co and opened up his own real estate office, Robert J. Fewell Co. He developed a close business relationship with Realtor Richard Rafter and they enjoyed sharing office space and became partners on several Real Estate ventures. In 1984, they had Shuster & Associates, design the award winning Mediterranean 288 Aragon Building in CG where Robert J. Fewell Co is still located. Bob enjoyed Real Estate and was at his office at 9AM until the age of 92. The plaque that always hung in his office regarding business was ""Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence"" and his work ethic emulated that philosophy. In 1961, Bob and Marian built their home in CG where they resided together for the next 57 years. Besides their home in CG, they kept vacation homes in NC and at the Palm Beach Polo Club. He loved traveling and he, his wife and daughter visited countries all over the world. Bob loved CG and generously donated the land in 1998 at the corner of Coral Way and Granada for Fewell Park; the funding for The Robert and Marian Fewell Gallery at the Coral Gables Museum; as well as making substantial contributions to the Sylvester Cancer Institute and the Founders Society of the Baptist Health Foundation. He was a member of the University of Miami Presidents Club and the Society of University Founders. He enjoyed playing golf weekly and had memberships at the Riviera Country Club, Kenmure Country Club in NC and Palm Beach Polo Club. He could be seen many evenings hitting balls after work at the Granada Golf course across from his house. Having many good friends meant so much to Bob. We will love you forever and life will not be the same without you. Bob is survived by his adoring wife, Marian, daughter, Carole and son-in-law Rodd Buell. Visitation is from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM Today, February 8 2018, at the Van Orsdel Funeral Home, 4600 SW 8th Street, Coral Gables. A private burial will be held. A ""Celebration of Bob's Wonderful Life"" will be held at the Christ Journey Church, 624 Anastasia Avenue, Coral Gables at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 13, 2018. In lieu of flowers, in Bob's memory donations can be made by calling: Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (305) 243-9088.

KOLBER, STANLEY 94, passed away on Sunday Feb 4, 2018. He was an avid sports fan and it seems right that he left us on Super Bowl Sunday. 'Stan the Man' actually played ball on the "Young Viejo's" softball team until well into his 80's! Stan had a wonderful smile and a fantastic sense of humor. People were amazed by his sharp mind, and ability to win any trivia contest. Stanley served his country in World War II and the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart. Stan's volunteered for years at Baptist Hospital and at the Jewish Home for the aged. It's very likely that your venetian blinds were made by Stan and his brother's business, Kolber Brothers. Stan grew up in Chicago. He graduated as Salutatorian from Miami High in 1941. For years Stan hosted luncheons for Miami High classmates and was the "glue" that kept the group aptly named "Ol Timers" together. Stanley's greatest joys were his 3 wonderful children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and nephews Cliff Kolber (Doris) and niece Joan Bonello (Dave) and their families. Robert H. Traurig, co-founder of powerhouse Miami law firm Greenberg Traurig, died July 17 at the age of 93.
He co-founded the law firm in 1967 with Mel Greenberg and Larry Hoffman under the name Greenberg Traurig Hoffman.
"This is a tremendous loss for the community, the legal profession, and for me, personally,” said Hoffman, the founding chairman of Greenberg Traurig. “Bob was unique and a huge influence on all of us at the law firm – lawyers and staff. His accomplishments and contributions to our firm, the legal profession and our community will remain as standards always. Mere words cannot do justice to his role in all our lives and the personal loss we all feel."
The firm ranked first on the Business Journal’s 2018 list of the region's largest law firms with 297 attorneys. It had a staff of 680 people in five local offices.
Worldwide, Greenberg Traurig has more than 2,000 attorneys in 38 offices.
Traurig was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, and moved with his family to Miami in 1939, when he was still a teenager. After graduating from Miami Senior High School, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a communications operator from 1943 to 1946, a time that included World War II.
He then earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a law degree from the University of Miami, but Traurig didn’t practice law immediately. He served with the Navy in the Korean War from 1951 to 1952.
Traurig established his own practice in 1954 and focused on real estate and corporate law. Thirteen years later, he co-founded Greenberg Traurig Hoffman with two of his “lunch buddies.” The firm has represented many of South Florida’s largest developers in conducting deals and securing building approvals.
Greenberg Traurig Senior Chairman Cesar L. Alvarez said Traurig’s community service made a strong impression on him.
"Once when he was requesting donations for a charity … I handed him a check and said, trying to impress him, ‘I wrote this check until it hurt,'" Alvarez said. "He looked at me saddened, tore up the check, and said: ‘Cesar, I only want you to write a check if it makes you feel good.'"
After thinking about it long and hard, Alvarez wrote a bigger check that he presented to Traurig the next day, he said.
"From that simple interaction, I learned a very special lesson about giving that carries with me today and opened the door to my community involvement,” Alvarez said.
Traurig was awarded the Miami-Dade Beacon Council’s 2017 Jay Malina Award for community service, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Sand in My Shoes award for business leadership, and the Friend of Israel Humanitarian Award from the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.
Over the years, he helped raise funds for the Historical Association of Southern Florida, the Frost Museum of Science, the Greater Miami Opera, the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, and the New World Symphony. He previously served as the chairman of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
“As a forefather of the firm, Bob took many of us under his wing and taught us how to be successful lawyers,” said Matthew B. Gorson, senior chairman of the firm. “Not only did he work harder than anybody else did, he had many causes and he would see you and ask you to help. He was our role model, and will continue to be.”

SUSMAN, BETTY ARLENE (Rosenbach), gently passed away at her home on the evening of January 12. Betty was born on May 6, 1937, as Chaya Baiyla Rosenbach, in Warsaw, Poland, and was the daughter of Esther and Albert Rosenbach. She was a child survivor of the Holocaust. In about 1942, after being separated from her father, her mother hid Betty and her sister Sally in sacks of hay and pushed them in a cart to smuggle them out of the Warsaw Ghetto. They were able to escape by bribing the Nazi guards. After days of running and hiding in forests, they were eventually captured at the border by the Russians and imprisoned in a Siberian Labor Camp for about two years, where her brother Michael was born. After their release, they lived in Uzgent and Tashkent, Russia until the end of the war. In 1945, they traveled to Germany and registered with a Displaced Persons Camp. The family was miraculously reunited with her father, Albert. After waiting several years, they finally received visas to immigrate to America in 1949. They boarded the ship, USAT General Harry Taylor, which was bound for New Orleans. They then traveled by train to Miami where they were sponsored by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and settled in Westchester. Betty attended Shenandoah Elementary and Ada Merritt Junior High. She graduated from Miami High School in 1956. She met her beloved husband of 60 years, Sandy, and married in 1958. After the birth of their second child, Todd, Sandy and she worked tirelessly to open Haven School, a private school for autistic children. They then petitioned legislators to grant public education for children with autism in the Miami-Dade Public School System. By 1973, their son was able to attend Palmetto Elementary and went on to the junior and high schools, and graduated in 1984. She loved her three children, but her ultimate joys were her granddaughters. Affectionately referred to as Mima, they enjoyed many memories together. Whether it was attending their school events, dance recitals, or just hanging out, Mima was always there beaming with pride. Betty is survived by her husband Sandy, her children Rick Susman (Trish Shearer), Todd Susman, and Laurel Schwartz (Steven), her granddaughters Kaley and Jordan Schwartz, all from Miami, Florida. She is also survived by her sister Sally Gutner (Louis) of Pembroke Pines, Florida and her brother Michael Rosenbach (Sara) of Lancaster, California. Her youngest brother, Charles Rosenbach, predeceased her.

Nancy's Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Nancy Sue Wilson Haeseker, 76, of North Palm Beach, Florida. On April 28, 2018, she peacefully joined the angels in her sleep, surrounded by her family at home, after a courageous three and a half year battle with Merkel cell carcinoma. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Henry William "Hank" Haeseker, their daughters Holly and Kelly Haeseker, and brother, Bill Wilson. Born in Atlanta, GA in 1941 to Azile and Bruce Wilson, she was always a bright and smiling spirit. At an early age, her family moved to Miami Springs, where Nancy graduated from Miami High School. Four years later, Nancy graduated with honors from the University of Florida where she was President of Kappa Delta Sorority, the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi, and a member of Mortar Board, a national honor society recognizing exemplary scholarship, leadership and service. Following graduation, she married Hank, the love of her life, and they began their adventure together with a trip around South America, before moving to San Diego, to begin their careers. After serving as a Probation Officer, she retired to enjoy full-time motherhood. In 1974, they moved to Orlando, Florida, where they raised the girls. Nancy was a tireless volunteer in the community, a national officer in Kappa Delta Sorority, and active alumna for over 50 years. After five more years for business in California, Hank and Nancy returned to Florida in 1994 to begin the "retired life" of travel to 64 countries. For 19 glorious years, they explored on their cruising yacht, the Last Laugh, visiting five countries, and circumnavigating the eastern half of the United States on the 6,000- mile "Great Loop." Nancy especially loved her Kappa Delta sisters, the Coquettes senior dance troupe of North Palm Beach, members of the DeFever Cruisers club, her loyal lifelong friends and special neighbors. All will remember her beautiful and ever-present smile, positive energy, and uplifting spirit. She forever will remain our "One-in-a-Million" Nancy. A private ceremony will be held to celebrate Nancy's life at a later date. She was deeply thankful to all that shared in her life and made her journey on this earth so special.
Mary Margaret Oehlert (Maurer) Allen was born March 15, 1941, in Camden, NJ; the second child of Ann Cochran and John Oehlert, and passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2018. In the early 1950s the family relocated to Miami, FL, where Mary lived throughout her teens and early twenties. At age 17, in order to seek treatment for a rare form of breast cancer, Mary fought for and won emancipation from her parents; exhibiting the fierce determination and indomitable spirit she carried with her throughout her life.
Following her 1959 graduation from Miami High School, Mary worked as a receptionist at the luxurious Fontainebleau Hotel for a brief period prior to returning to her native Camden. Upon returning to Camden she met and married Kenneth Maurer. The couple had two daughters - Mary Maurer Gallien and Nancy Maurer Rieckmann. Following her divorce from Mr. Maurer, Mary worked as a medical records technician at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. It was there that she met Dr. Jerry Lee Allen, a post-doctoral student from Calvin, LA, who was conducting research in immunology.
Upon agreeing to wed Dr. Allen in the summer of 1970, the couple relocated to Natchitoches, LA, where Dr. Allen accepted a position as a professor of Microbiology and Biochemistry at Northwestern State University. Mary took work as a medical records technician, holding positions at Natchitoches Parish Hospital and for several private physicians in the area. Dr. and Mrs. Allen continued to grow their family, adding Kathy, Jerry, and Becca, along with a multitude of family pets.
Mary enjoyed volunteering, serving as a founding member of the Natchitoches Kennel Club, sewing assistant and chaperone for the Natchitoches Majorettes, Girl Scout Troop leader for the two older girls, and softball coach for the two younger girls. It was herein that Mary found her true passion, serving as head or assistant softball coach for the Dixie Youth organization for over a decade. A natural leader, Mary served on the board of directors for Dixie Youth, ultimately serving a term as league commissioner. During her time coaching in the league, girls’ teams consistently finished in the top echelons of state tournaments, and the 1994 Debs team, for which her youngest, Becca played, won the Dixie Softball World Series. The Allens were ardent supporters of the sport, and could often be found in the bleachers cheering on the Natchitoches Central Lady Chiefs or the Northwestern State Lady Demons, even long after Becca had graduated from the schools.
In addition to her volunteer roles, Mary was an avid genealogical researcher, tracing the Allen and Oehlertfamily trees back several centuries. A lifelong learner, she studied as an emergency medical technician; and through her love of reading amassed a sizeable library of classical and contemporary literature.

“Joe Walker. Joey was the oldest of a long line of Walker family brothers and sisters to graduate from Miami High. Following Joe were Janet, Don, and Ray. All the boys played varsity football. My guess is that Joe graduated around 1959 or 1960. I believe he was living in The Villages when he passed. His brother, Ray, is my contemporary (MHS 1966) and remains my good friend to this day. The Walkers lived at 340 NW 56th Avenue, three houses down from me. Alice and Red Kirk lived directly across the street from them in the mid-1950s and well beyond.”
